Xcel Energy
Xcel Energy's Nuclear Power Plant in Monticello plays a large part in the community. The plant is one of the largest employers in Monticello, with about 640 people employed by Xcel or in relation to the plant's operations. Xcel is also one of the largest property tax payers in the City.
The plant is regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC). The City of Monticello does not have regulatory authority over the Nuclear Plant. However, we recognize that residents and neighboring communities may have concerns regarding the Nuclear Plant's operations in the community.
This page is provided for general information about the Xcel Energy Nuclear Plant, including press releases, emergency management resources, and Xcel Energy events. Our goal is to share information here as it is received.
